Art Charm/Swap Auction to Benefit Beads of Courage 2016

“Dear, dear! How queer everything is to-day! And yesterday things went on just as usual. I wonder if I’ve been changed in the night? Let me think: was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I’m not the same, the next question is, Who in the world am I? Ah, that’s the great puzzle! ”Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

On February 23, 1984, I was admitted to the hospital for what was going to change my life in a big way. I was prepped, poked, scanned and readied for major brain surgery to occur the next day. That night I remember thinking, will I be ok tomorrow? I was scared and I wondered what would be the outcome. I tried not to think about the seriousness and the what ifs. I tried not to dwell on the Captain who told me after his surgery he was more emotional, and had a plate in his head. I tried not to think about the talk I had with my brain surgeon about what he was going to do for 17 hours of surgery. I tried, but I did get anxious, until the visitor stopped by my room. He assured me, I would be ok, and he would be with me the whole time. This quote reminds me of that time in my life. What does this have to do with Beads of Courage? I can identify with being alone at night in a hospital waiting for some thing to happen. I know the fear, the anxiety, and the wondering of will I be different. I know, how a simple act of kindness like the stuffed deer my best friend who is now my hubby gave me before surgery. That deer cheered me up, and I still have it over 32 years later. It is that feeling that compels me to be a part of this swap/auction.

Your charms are utterly magical and your story touches me. I’ve been in the hospital room wondering what tomorrow would bring also, and I couldn’t agree more about what a difference little things make like this. It’s got a lot to do with why I’m how I am. Keep spreading your love. It’s felt.
